Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area
Th area where the Columbia River cuts through the Cascade mountains - with cliffs and overlooks of Washington to the north and Oregon's mountains and waterfalls to the south is unique in its natural and cultural history, as well as its designation as a National Scenic Area
Within 30 minutes drive outside of Portland lies Multnomah Falls. According to Native American lore, Multnomah Falls was created to win the heart of a young princess who wanted a hidden place to bathe.
There's a paved trail of several hundred feet to reach the Benson Bridge, which spans the falls at the first tier's misty base. There's a vantage point that's reachable after crossing the bridge and continuing a little further up the trail.
As of this writing, there was no fee required and Pets were allowed on leash.
